Included in this release is the addition of grouping and locking mechanisms for node child/parent relationships with the intent to make it easier to wrap EasyDiagram.NET around some real-world examples, including Database Schema diagrams and UML modeling.

Other big news with this release: the ASP.NET UpdatePanel control is now supported, so you can drop the diagramcontainer inside an updatepanel so adding and deleting node events get wrapped around the ajax page lifecycle.

Check out http://www.EasyDiagram.NET for all the examples. Also, please note -- the Source Code tab on this project has OLD code -- you can always get the most recent code by downloading the release, which has both the binary and the source code attached. I plan on putting a forum up on EasyDiagram.net so you can post questions shortly. Thanks to all of you who have expressed interest in the project.

EasyDiagram has been redesigned from the ground up to leverage the power of the prototype scripting library (http://www.prototypejs.org). By re-engineering the entire project from the ground up, I've made great strides in simplyfing the library and extending it into something very useful for a host of applications -- the javascript library presents any web developer now a viable option for rich, interactive programming with a very simple api.

The asp.net wrapper will be forthcoming, but to preview the javascript library in action, take a look at here:

This beta releases fixes the positioning issue that may have caused trouble as you tried to keep the nodes relatively positioned on the page. This should be working now -- all nodes are absolutely positioned ONLY inside their relative container, so you can put the diagramcontainer control anywhere in your page and the nodes will be positioned relative to it.

Also, there was some weirdness with the arrows that I fixed.

Just like last release, no more IFRAMEs, now you can drop the DiagramContainer directly on your page and start adding nodes. I also added the "adding nodes" example to [url:http://www.easydiagram.net]. Have fun!

UPDATE: I have just added a help file -- this will explain some details on the component, as well as describe (at the end) an important web.config file setting that needs to be put in place for direct line diagramming to work. I'm hope this helps all those folks who have been asking me.

EasyDiagram.NET is out of its alpha stage and ready for for beta 1! While still undergoing quite a bit of development, EasyDiagram now should be basically functional with minimal effort on the part of the developer. Check out [url:http://www.EasyDiagram.net] for recent updates. Most notably, Diagramming can now be done orthogonally or with direct lines, and as always, only AJAX and Javascript are used, no plugins required. There are host of undocumented features as of yet, but the basics are (slowly) being covered at EasyDiagram.net.

You should now be able to drag the component onto the page without requiring any iframe. Its initialization method uses Javascript (tested in IE and Firefox) to determine where it is on the page and dynamically sets the boundaries around it. Look at the events, I'm sure you'll be happy to see how easy they are to use (the click events, for example, include an e.ModalDialogueHtmlToDisplay that you can use to dynamically set the html on a click).

Please note: this release contains only the Heckel.EasyTools.Diagramming.dll at the moment. More documentation to come.
